It was an extra meaningful Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for Disney cast member and blood cancer survivor Nikki as she cheered on her mom who ran her first-ever runDisney 10K in support of Nikki and Blood Cancer United, the race weekendโs celebrated charity.
Nikkiโs Journey
โIt all started with just a few bruises I couldnโt explain,โ Nikki shared. โWithin 24 hours of hearing the word โleukemia,โ I was on a flight to Seattle to start treatment.โ
Nikki was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and underwent intensive chemotherapy followed by a full stem cell transplant, a process she describes as โrebuilding your immune system from scratch.โ
Nikkiโs donor was a young man across the country whose selfless choice saved her life. โHis generosity literally gave me a second chance,โ she said. Reaching remission brought overwhelming relief and a new way of seeing the world. Throughout her journey, Nikkiโs mother was a constant support system.
โShe was with me 24/7,โ Nikki said. โI donโt think there was a single moment she wasnโt right by my side.โ

Disneyโs Commitment to Cast and Workplace Wellness
Now two years in remission, Nikki is living her dream: creating magic as a Walt Disney World cast member. As a leader in workplace wellness, Disneyโs committed to supporting cast members like Nikki by providing a variety of resources to help with well-being and growth.
Working at Creature Comforts in Animal Kingdom, Nikki finds joy in small moments with guests.
โI try to put a lot of care into every interaction,โ she said. โA kind word or a small moment can change someoneโs day. You never know what someone else might be going through.โ
How runDisney Supports Blood Cancer United
Blood Cancer United has been a celebrated charity of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for more than 30 years, raising more than $96 million to support research and patients over that time.ย
โThat fundraising leads to new treatments and options for people like me,โ Nikki said. โRunners supporting this cause are giving people hope and second chances.โ
โBeing able to support and honor my daughter by running the Walt Disney World 10K meant everything to me,โ said Sharon, Nikkiโs mom. โIt was a way to thank everyone who helped get us here and to carry those families with us every step of the way.โ

Filled with gratitude and excitement for her future full-time role at Disney, Nikki hopes her story inspires others to stay aware, stay kind, and never ignore the little signs.
โA few bruises saved my life,โ she said. โAnd now I get to be here, making magic every day.โ
